Cleve Tidwell is a former Marine and highly successful businessman seeking the Republican nomination to the United States Senate.

Cleve Tidwell is a former Marine and highly successful businessman seeking the Republican nomination to the United States Senate.

Yesterday at ThorntonFest I had the opportunity to spend some time visiting with Cleve Tidwell, candidate for the United States Senate.  Mr. Tidwell is seeking the Republican nomination to take on Michael Bennet in 2010 and from what I have seen, read and heard, of Mr. Tidwell, Senator Bennet may be out of a job soon.

The Marine grew up in lower middle class Georgia and at an early age was instilled with the values of hard work and faith.  His business acumen, dedication and hard work allowed him rise to senior management at a Fortune 100 company followed by him starting up his own small business which saw tremendous success.  His agriculture background fortified by real-world business knowhow is a very good fit for Colorado.

When asked why he was running for office, Mr. Tidwell said, “It is time for me to leave the private sector and stand strong for my country as I always have in business. I made that decision when I realized our Government thinks they can run our lives better than we can. Government cannot run our lives better. Government cannot run our businesses better. The Constitution says this is a nation of ‘We the People…’ not ‘We the Government…’ therefore we can straighten out the mess that’s been created if we stick to solid, proven principles. Government’s job is to protect us and assure our rights, not to interfere and run our businesses or lives.”

I hope to have the opportunity to visit with Mr. Tidwell more in the coming months so be sure to check back.  In the meantime, below is some video of him speaking at the Tax Day Tea Party in Fort Collins.  Be sure to check it out.  You can visit his campaign website at http://www.tidwellforsenate.com/.

Between Tidwell and Buck, I will choose Tidwell. Good article. One correction for you. When I spoke with Tidwell and I said “former marine,” he made sure to inform me that there is no such thing as a former marine.

  • Tony:

John, good point on the ‘former Marine’ – I have corrected that. You would think as a former sailor that worked with many Marines I would have caught that! :)

    Thanks!

    Tony

Tidwell has a strong history in business and life. As candidates go, he’s one of the few I’ve seen who understand that Government can’t exist in a vacuum. Without the people, government ceases to exist. There’s no money, no power, and no value in a government where the people don’t matter.

  • Lynn:

Cleve Tidwell does seem to be a very good candidate. Ryan Frazier’s left-leaning views on social issues make him a tough sell to me.
