Josh Penry endorses Jane Norton

With less than two months to go until the Republican caucus in Colorado, the endorsements are sure to start piling up. Cleve Tidwell announced that he had earned the endorsement of the Independence Caucus yesterday. Jane Norton has followed with her own big announcement that Colorado Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry had endorsed her.
Penry’s star power is on the rise within the GOP and he is a favorite among many independent conservatives. He bowed out of the gubernatorial race in November rather than fight a war of attrition for the Republican nomination against Scott McInnis.
His endorsement of Norton could carry a lot of weight and will likely help the frontrunner secure some votes from folks that have been wary of her.

PENRY ENDORSES JANE NORTON FOR SENATE
Monday, January 25, 2010
(GRAND JUNCTION) – Colorado Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry today announced his endorsement of former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton in the race to replace Democrat appointee Michael Bennet in the United State Senate. The announcement was made before a crowd of more than 150 supporters in Grand Junction, birthplace of both Norton and Penry.
“Looking back over the course of the last decade, both Democrats and Republicans in Washington lost their fiscal compass,” said Penry. “And as a result, we’ve been left with record deficits and a Federal Government unwilling to live within its means.
“But thankfully, we have an opportunity in 2010 to make a clean break from the past. We need to elect principled leaders who will go back to Washington and be bold champions for reform and fiscal restraint. I believe – I know – Jane Norton is that person.”
Senator Penry joins a who’s-who list of conservative heavyweights who have voiced their support for Norton’s campaign. Among the other endorsers are former Governor Bill Owens, former U.S. Senators Hank Brown and Bill Armstrong, former Club 20 head Greg Walcher, and state representative Laura Bradford.
“In a very short time, Josh Penry has established himself as one of Colorado’s best and brightest conservative minds,” commented Norton. “I am truly honored to earn his endorsement and his trust as we work to reestablish the principles of personal freedom and fiscal responsibility as the hallmarks of the Republican Party.”
