Ryan Frazier declares candidacy for United States Senate

Ryan Frazier has announced he will seek the GOP nomination to the United States Senate.
Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier announced last week that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for United States Senate. The United States Navy veteran is ready to throw himself into the fray and battle Michael Bennet for what is sure to be one of the most hotly contested seats in 2010. Watch the video below of his announcement.
A couple weeks ago we highlighted Mr. Frazier as the potential “new voice of the Colorado GOP.” He is a young, energetic and dynamic man who is very quickly garnering a great deal of attention locally and nationally. His new campaign website – www.FrazierForColorado.com – is already up and running with his biography and the obligatory donation information.
As we mentioned before, there are some concerns within the conservative base about Mr. Frazier’s stance on social issues. He supported the failed Referendum I which would have created domestic partnerships in Colorado, a rather controversial stance and one sure not to endear him to “the base.” His potential challengers for the GOP nomination, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck and former Congressman Bob Beauprez, are sure to seize this issue and use it against him.
At least one member of the People’s Press Collective has stepped forward to endorse Frazier already. Rossputin said, “I’d urge GOP voters to decide whether they want to push the most conservative candidate through the primary just to have him lose to a Democrat in the general election or whether they want to support a guy who might not be perfect on some social issue but is a solid pro-liberty, pro-limited government, pro-capitalism candidate who stands a very good chance of appealing to Independent voters and winning back a Senate seat for the Republican Party.”
The question is, didn’t the GOP try to run a moderate candidate for the presidency this last go round and thus see him promptly get destroyed?
I for one find Ryan Frazier very intriguing but do harbor some concerns primarily related to his stance on social issues. His positions will be fleshed out and well vetted in the coming months – until then, I remain cautiously hopeful.
