Ryan Frazier moves campaign to 7th Congressional District

Rather than run for a Senate seat, Ryan Frazier will run for Congress in the 7th Congressional District.
Aurora city councilman Ryan Frazier announced today he was dropping his United States Senate bid and instead will run for Congress in Colorado’s 7th Congressional District. That seat is currently held by Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) and had been considered relatively safe – until today.
Frazier’s announcement today wasn’t much of a surprise. Rumors about the switch were trickling out two weeks ago. By the time the campaign announced earlier this week there would be a big announcement today, most everyone knew the move was going to happen.
In a statement on the campaign’s website, Frazier said, “It’s time to re-energize the people’s House with new leadership and better solutions. The 7th Congressional District represents the right path, right now to do my part in helping make America better. The people here deserve a better choice.”
The Navy veteran and small business owner had electried parts of Colorado’s GOP while some in the party had questioned the large leap from councilman to Senator. The move resolves those arguments and may very well allow the Republicans to regain the 7th Congressional District.
The Senate race continues to be crowded, particularly after former Colorado lieutenant governor Jane Norton stepped into the race. Frazier’s exit leaves Norton, Weld County D.A. Ken Buck and businessman Cleve Tidwell as the top tier candidates remaining.
