I was watching some video of the union and anti-union protests at the state capitol yesterday and in one of them, I noticed something interesting.  State Representatives Judy Solano and John Soper were seen cheering on their union buddies from the balcony of the capitol building.

With all the drama in Wisconsin and other states in the Midwest surrounding unions, many Americans find themselves coming to the realization that these groups are not serving our best interests.  They take money from their hardworking members and use it for political purposes and to line the pockets of the union bosses – nothing more.

When unions have control, we see what the outcome is. States like Wisconsin teeter on bankruptcy under the demands of unionized government workers with cushy pensions and compensation that far outstrips their private industry counterparts.  Businesses flee these states for the more friendly environs of right to work states that welcome them with open arms and workers more than happy to have the jobs.

Colorado has long held a good balance and we have been rewarded with a stronger economy and a higher quality of life than states burdened by unions. As Colorado has shifted slightly to the left under Democratic control at the state capitol, that has changed in recent years.  We are no longer viewed as business friendly and it is costing us jobs and hurting our economy.

Democratic legislators like Solano and Soper willingly rake in campaign contributions from unions and in turn they support the unions’ leftist agenda while we pay the price. Elected officials like these do not support the 90% of their constituency that is not unionized.

This same effect trickles into even low level politics.  Here in Thornton we have seen city council members pandering to these groups in recent months.  If unions are allowed in, we all will pay in a myriad of ways, not the least of which is with higher taxes.

Let us also not forget the various connections all of these officials have to the Democratic machine here in Adams County – the “Adams Family” as it has been called. Recent weeks have shown all of these people are tied together and that is cause for alarm as scandal after scandal comes to light.

Is this the Thornton, Adams County and Colorado that you want?

Do we want to become another Detroit, Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio or Indiana?

The answer is clearly no and elected officials like these need to know our answer and be shown the door.
