Time to fit the capitol with a straightjacket
As originally reported by Sean Paige at LocalLibertyOnline.com, Governor Ritter had some interesting comments in his State of the State address today. As Mr. Paige points out, the governor and state legislature continue to blame all of the state’s ills on TABOR. To quote Governor Ritter:
“There is also an opportunity here – a chance to address TABOR and the constitutional and statutory straightjacket that makes modern, sensible and value-based budgeting an impossibility. Last year, former House Speaker Romanoff started the conversation, and we need to keep it alive. We need to talk about life after Ref C – whether and when to extend it. We have a chance to find a better way forward, a Colorado way forward.”
Rather than finding a way to work within the constraints of TABOR, our elected officials continue to try to find ways to evade the taxpayer approved measure. I don’t understand why it is so hard for the governor and the others at the capitol to grasp the concept that Coloradoans have been clear on this issue – there needs to be restrictions on their spending.
Governor Ritter, Speaker Carroll and Senate President Groff, as we have said many time before… If you want more money to spend, that is fine but we the people have the final say. Period! We have rejected your measures and appeals before and we will continue to do so. TABOR is in place for a reason and will remain so.
As for that straightjacket… Send me your sizes. I’ll see if I can get one fitted for you.
