The hit keep coming - Aurora doubts RTD's numbersVery, very interesting FasTracks news this week.  The city of Aurora has announced it is going to hire its own consultant to evaluate RTD’s cost estimates for the I-225 corridor part of the project.  This is big news as it signals that Colorado’s second largest city isn’t buying RTD’s costs as the city isn’t seeing the same kinds of increases RTD is claiming.  The story in the Rocky Mountain News in part said:

“We’ve seen some dramatic increases in costs on our corridors,” [Aurora Mayor Ed] Tauer said. “We realize costs have gone up, but in our experience, they have not gone up for other projects we’ve seen as much as the projections have for RTD. We just want to take another look.”

You can read the article here.  Wouldn’t that be interesting if RTD was found to be using inaccurate estimates?  Of course their estimates weren’t accurate when the sold the public this boondoggle so I guess this shouldn’t be any different.  RTD of course is not happy with this development.  Just like the sham public meetings they recently held showed, they don’t like to be questioned.
