postheadericon Parker mayor: RTD has now become the AIG of Colorado asking for a taxpayers’ bailout

In an email to his fellow metro area mayors, Parker mayor David Casiano has said he and the Parker city council will not back RTD’s money grab via another tax increase for the FasTracks boondoggle.  In part the mayor said:

“I will not sit silently by while this ballot issue emerges.  I will be outspoken…..  RTD has now become the AIG of Colorado asking for a taxpayers’ bailout. I am tired of RTD privatizing the gains and socializing the losses.”

It is good to see that at least one municipality and set of elected officials is willing to take a stand against this project!

So what is it going to take for the rest of the metro area burbs’ city councils to wake up and admit they made a mistake on supporting this thing? I know they spent a ton of political capital originally but it is time to cut losses and look toward a more comprehensive solution.

It is about time someone stood up to those yahoos! The entire RTD board should be recalled and Cal Marsella fired for their poor management of the district and FasTracks. As for the local politicians, they need to grow a backbone and stand up for their constituents.

Bravo, well said. I agree metro area city councils need to unite and stand up. In Thornton’s case se have some weak sticks that ran for council with personal agendas. Fortunately our mayor has a backbone. RTD can be tamed.
