Eyes forward, Mr. President!

Certainly we have learned that President Barack Obama and his administration are prone to foreign policy gaffes. We have documented them previously (click here) and while in Russia this past week Obama referred to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as “President”, something that certainly raised the eyebrows of the real Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev.
On the heels of that gaffe, our president was snapped in a photograph at the G-8 Summit yesterday apparently admiring the “assets” of a 16-year-old delegate from Brazil. The young lady, Mayora Tavares from Brazil, was one of 53 youth delegates at the conference and seemingly caught the eye of President Obama as she walked by. French President Nicolas Sarkozy looks on in amusement at the affair.
Certainly any man is going to admire a beautiful woman and there is nothing wrong with that. However, a little bit of discretion is always wise, especially when you are the leader of the free world and constantly in the public eye. Now of course the international media is seizing on the photo including in Germany, Italy, Ireland and Brazil in addition to news outlets here in the U.S.
The president could take a cue from the Marines that escort him aboard Marine One and keep his eyes forward at all times.
UPDATE: ABC News has video showing the scene and it does indeed appear that this is a case when a photo can be deceiving. In the video, it appears President Obama simply looks down to gauge his footing on the steps. French President Nicolas Sarkozy however doesn’t appear to be quite so innocent. Check out the video here. It is also interesting how ABC was so quick to rush to the president’s defense – certainly not a big news worthy item even if it were true.
UPDATE 2: Here is an interesting twist. When we first found the video on ABC’s site at about 8:10am MDT, it included some banter from the Good Morning America crew who pointed out that Sarkozy definitely seemed to be leering at the girl and the video appeared to show that. Five minutes later, the online video was edited and cropped to show only Obama, seemingly to spare the French president from any embarassment. Media bias?
UPDATE 3: Okay, I don’t know what the heck ABC News has going on. Now the original video with commentary is back.
