postheadericon Friday funny: White House website still makes promise of halving deficit by end of Obama’s first term

Friday’s not-so-funny Funny, comes to us courtesy the White House’s own website. Under ‘Fiscal Responsibility’ the site says President Obama would:

“Cut the deficit in half by the end of the President’s first term. On January 20, 2009, the President inherited a $1.3 trillion budget deficit. The President has put forth a budget that will halve this deficit by the end of his first term, bring non-defense discretionary spending to its lowest level as a share of GDP since 1962.”

Hmmm. If it were cut in half in this, the final year of his first term, the deficit would be $650 billion. Instead, the budget Obama put out this week would result in a $1.3 trillion deficit.

WTF, Mr. President? Where is that hope and change?
