Many readers have been wondering why I have been absent from comments about Hurricane Katrina and the deadly and devastating aftermath.  Like the days after 9/11, words escape me – something which is rare!

Thousands of square miles of homes and businesses wiped out leaving hundreds if not thousands dead, hundreds of thousands now homeless and jobless.  What can one say?  This is a disaster of nearly Biblical proportions.  It is heart wrenching to watch the aftermath and what is happening on the Gulf Coast is hard to imagine.

Yesterday President George W. Bush was touring the area.  I watched news video of him talking with a young lady in Biloxi, Mississippi.  This poor lady just kept saying how all she had left was a trash bag of clothes.  The President, with tears in his eyes, hugged and kissed her and promised help, trying to offer some small comfort.  This woman is merely one of hundreds of thousands that have lost everything, the scenes of devastation are overwhelming.

At some point in the coming days or weeks I may have more to say.  For now, I just ask that you pray for the people down there and if at all possible, give to the charities helping in the relief efforts.

God bless you and God bless America!
