Romney Suspends Campaign
Mitt Romney, after lackluster Super Tuesday results, has announced that he is suspending his Presidential campaign. This leaves John McCain as the presumptive Republican nominee. It is smart on Romney’s part as unfortunately he was a long shot from here on out. He lives to fight another day and could be a candidate again in 2012 or 2016.
As for McCain, the fact that he lost virtually every single southern state speaks volumes. He may appeal to “middle-of-the-road” voters and conservative leaning Democrats but if he can’t win the south, he is done come November whether he faces Obama or Clinton. A Republican candidate simply cannot win without the south – period – and his track record is going to make it a tough sell down there. McCain has been a Democrat in Republican clothes and he is going to have a hard time convincing those that lean far right otherwise.
