postheadericon Tony’s Thoughts on the Presidential Candidates

It is very early in the race but I figured I would throw my 2 cents worth out there on the front-runners.

Like many folks, I have found myself rather disillusioned with much of the current crop of Presidential candidates.  A lot of the same old, same old with nothing really new to offer.  Here is what I think about the leaders:

Democrats

Hillary Clinton – Certainly she would be the best for those that love the “welfare state” that the Dems support and was founded by FDR in the 1930′s.  Lots of baggage with her for obvious reasons, her husband being a big chunk of it.  I just don’t trust her.

John Edwards – Lots of adjectives come to mind.  Slimy is a good one I think.  Unforgiveable use of Memorial Day to bash the war and that is something I can’t forget.

Barack Obama – Lack of experience and he shows a lot of naivete on the campaign trail (particularly about foreign policy).  That isn’t exactly reassuring.

Republicans

Rudy Giuliani - Leading most polls but he is a big time flip flopper, has a ton of personal baggage that causes me to question his ethics plus, and don’t be offended, he is very “East coast.”

John McCain – This is the toughest one.  I really want to like him but I have my doubts.  Haven’t quite put my finger on it but there is something there that bugs me.  His military background is a definite plus.

Mitt Romney - Intriguing to me.  Flip flopper for sure but I like what he says (of course they all say the right things).  Haven’t decided if he was only saying what Massachusetts liberals wanted to hear when he ran for governor or if he believes all that and is now saying what he thinks conservatives want to hear.  I have a pretty good feeling about him.  Recent comparison of his sons’ work in politics to the military personal that volunteer was a pretty big blunder.

Fred Thompson – The late entry but probably my favorite.  Doesn’t fit the typical Washington D.C. mold and that is a definite plus.  Probably the most steady conservative of the bunch.  His charisma will definitely be a plus with voters.
