In a startling charge, Senator Barbara Boxer warns that Republicans have a ‘vendetta against Elmo.’ Rumor has it the GOP is targeting Raggedy Ann next.

There are many among the elected officials in Washington DC who provide some pretty extraordinary sound bites.  Few however reach the level of California’s Barbara Boxer whose stupidity is oftentimes on full display much to our delight.

Nearly two years ago she dressed down an Army general for daring to call her ma’am.  Soon after she was slapped down by Black Chamber of Commerce CEO Harry Alford for her trying to inject race into a discussion.

Now we have the good Senator Boxer saying during a floor speech today that House Republicans have a “vendetta against Elmo” for their efforts to end the taxpayer subsidies for the leftist PBS and NPR.

Poor Elmo.

Children all around the nation will go to bed tonight thinking that those evil Republicans are out to get their favorite Muppet.  Of course maybe someone should ask Boxer to give up some of the $407 million in earmarks she has requested in recent years – that would be enough to save PBS.

I am wondering what is up with the Democratic fetish with these stuffed animals?  Just a couple weeks ago a bunch of Democratic representatives appeared at a press conference with Arthur, Big Bird, Grover and of course Bert and Ernie.  Kind of seems like a bit of an unhealthy infatuation for grownups.

I for one would love to see Elmo run for office as there is little doubt his IQ eclipses that of most in Congress.

Be sure not to call Senator Barbara Boxer 'ma'am'.

To say Senator Barbara Boxer is left would not even begin to describe her but that is pretty much par for the course for someone representing the Free Republic of California.  Last year the senator derided a brigadier general for daring to call her ma’am saying she should be called senator because she “worked so hard to get that title.” 

The moment, caught in full view of CSPAN cameras, became yet another extraordinary display of the disdain the elitist left feels toward the United States military.  Oh sure, they publically say “we support the military” but underneath it their real feelings are very clear. 

RightChange.com just released a new video spoofing the incident and showing just how idiotic Boxer’s actions were.  Hopefully California voters will see the light and finally send Boxer packing.

In the discussion about the benefits (or lack thereof) of ‘green’ jobs, Mr. Alford rightfully took the senator to task when she introduced into the record an NAACP resolution.  By waiting until Mr. Alford – a black man –  was testifying against the measures and in opposition to her, Boxer certainly chose to bring race into the discussion.  The back and forth in the video below is very interesting.

In one of the absolutely most comical and asinine displays ever seen in the halls of the Senate, California Senator Barbara Boxer directed an Army brigadier general to call her ‘Senator’ – not ma’am.  Brig. Gen Michael Wash of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers was testifying about the restoration of the Louisiana coast and was quickly remanded for daring to show respect to the senator.  Watch video of the exchange below.

As the general was responding to a question for Boxer she interrupted.

“You know, do me a favor,” an irritated Boxer said. “Could say ‘senator’ instead of ‘ma’am?’”

“Yes, ma’am,” Walsh interjected.

“It’s just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I’d appreciate it, yes, thank you,” she said.

“Yes, senator,” he responded.

Military custom of course requires that ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’ be used when addressing someone higher in the chain of command or any civilian for that matter.  Whether addressing a senator, representative or even the President of the United States, it is wholly and completely appropriate. 

This was a completely inappropriate and egotistical showing by the liberal senator and given her track record, I suppose it isn’t surprising.  However, I tend to think that the general should indeed call her senator as using sir or ma’am shows much more respect – and Boxer is not one that is worthy of it. 

When I was in the service, I made it a specific point to address only the officers I respected as sir or ma’am.  Those that I did not, I always called by their title – i.e. “Yes, Lieutenant Martin” or “No, Commander Gillis.”  Even in passing I used their titles and names and it drove them nuts.
