Is this a scene we want in Thornton?

Is this a scene we want in Thornton?

Take a look at the images in this story.  Those are but two of many taken in recent years when the Drug Enforcement Agency was raiding California medical marijuana dispensaries.  The current administration has halted these raids however a shift in public policy or a change in the White House could quickly change that.  While Colorado voters may have approved medical marijuana, the fact of the matter is that marijuana is by federal law illegal and the feds can raid these facilities should they choose to do so

Do you want to see this in Thornton?  Do you want DEA agents swarming our neighborhoods and shopping centers?  Do you want the shift in crime these dispensaries bring?

If Thornton City Council allows medical marijuana dispensaries, how long will it be before a scene like this is played out in your neighborhood?

Of course you don’t!  That is why it is imperative you contact your Thornton City Council representatives and tell them NO to medical marijuana dispensaries.  It only takes a second to send them an email or make a phone call.  You need to do this NOW!  Don’t let Thornton become a haven for illegal drugs.

Here is the contact information for the Thornton City Council.  This is a citywide issue so if possible, contact every representative whether they are part of your Ward or not!

I have spoken to or exchanged emails with most of council and I get the sense they are willing to allow the illegal drug trade into our city unless citizens stand up and just say no!

Thornton needs to to only allow businesses in the community that truly do good and serve for the betterment of it.

Why are we now considering letting all business into Thornton? Is it the result of the tax shortfall?

  • Linda:

Come on Thornton City Council – do the right thing and ban these businesses from our city. WE DON’T WANT THEM!

  • Brian Thornton:

This is moving ahead… Please see the council agenda that will be discussed Tuesday at http://www.cityofthornton.net/cclk/Council/2009/101309/101309_Council_Packet.pdf

Its sure funny that Thornton council, dont say anything on how bad liquor is for for our kids, and how it kills.but yeat we a liquor store on every corner, They have alot to say about Medical Marijuana, that some of really need and perscribed by doctors, and so we have to drive across town to get it,and we spend our money there to ,and lots of it. that we really need here in Thornton.beats me !! but I think they and the people of Thornton should think about a lot harder. (marijuana does not kill )

  • Brian Thornton:

    joseph,

we are well read.. in federal, state and municipal law and we don’t want this…

We could compare it to driving which kills even more then drinking but we don’t… because liquor stores like driving are LEGAL activities practiced by legal people.

To assert by any other mean that people want drugs legally is to assume they are ALL taking them or have taken it previously which we can both agree is not the case.

My brother in law was in a car accident where he suffered injuries that are not only dibilitating but also extremely painful. He has a prescription for just about every pain killer there is. These so called legal drugs, which he will be on for most if not all of the rest of his life, are powerful and over many years of use will start to do damage to his body.

Now, marijuana has been proven to not only relieve pain but it doesn’t have long term effects to the body. I have been to the dispensories with him and have seen many individuals who have no visible signs or reasons to purchase this perfectly legitimate drug. This is a problem that needs to be addressed and fixed but is not a sole reason to ban dispensories from areas.

With all this said, I am in favor for people with legitimate reasons to use medical marijuana to have ease of access and a safe place to purchase their therapeutic drugs. Having to drive 40 minutes to Boulder or 30 minutes to Denver when he has horrid pain sitting in one position for that long is not only ridiculous and a shame, but it is also cruel.

Thornton does not need a dispensory on every corner nor have one across from the local high school, but they should be allowed to open offices, for instance, in medical zoned areas. A dispensory located in a medical center would blend in and also allow patients to take care of doctors appointments and get the drugs they need in a much easier fashion. Probably all in one trip!!!

This is of course one man’s opinion. I understand people are afraid of marijuana because they have always been told it is bad. I encourage people to read studies from the CDC, Surgeons General and other credible sources before making their opinions on such matters.
