postheadericon Election Results – My Take

Elections…  For me overall, I find very little to like about the results anywhere locally, across the state or the nation for that matter.  Read my take…

Locally we gave the county permission to tax three generations of residents and gave a worthless library district that nobody uses money that isn’t going to sustain them for any amount of time.  Statewide, we passed things that are going to hurt small businesses (minimum wage increase for one), we failed to ensure school districts put money in the classroom where it belongs and we passed a stupid referendum that requires the state to sue the federal government over immigration, something that is useless and is going to cost taxpayers millions of dollars.

Then of course we elected a Democrat governor.  I really don’t mind that in and of itself and I actually think Bill Ritter is a “reasonable” Democrat.  The problem is that now the Dems control the entire capitol.  That is a recipe for disaster!  All of the stuff that Governor Bill Owens vetoed in the last couple of years is going to come back and pass.  Get ready for state funded / mandated health care, a very unbusiness friendly agenda, higher taxes, etc, etc.  This is going to be a mess.

The good?  Well, it is hard to find…  No to pot legalization which was a no brainer although as liberal as Colorado is becoming, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see that pass.  Turned down the “petition rights” thing which would have made it entirely too easy to get stuff on the ballot (as if there isn’t enough BS on there as is).  Turned down “domestic partnerships” – I could really go on a tear on that topic as you might imagine.   Actually am kind of surprised that one didn’t pass, again due to Colorado seeming to become more and more liberal.

The Dems gained control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.  Well, this isn't particularly surprising and I don't see a lot coming from it.  They have a very slim majority and there are a lot of moderate Democrats that aren't going to let too liberal of an agenda pass.  Of course George Bush will certainly be using his veto pen more than he has in the past for sure though.

I have a headache this morning and I think the election results are the reason.
