U.S. Conference of Mayors submits list of infrastructure projects
On CNN’s website today they discuss a report titled “Main Street Economic Recovery: ‘Ready To Go’ Jobs and Infrastructure Projects” that was submitted to Congress by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The report recommends $73.2 billion worth of projects from 427 cities.
CNN dug into the report and found that some of the recommendations go well beyond traditional infrastructure projects that would be in the same vein as projects that dug us out of the Great Depression or in the post WWII years. Some of the ones that might be considered ‘pork’ include $6.1 million for corporate jet hangars, a new $1.5 million water ride, a $20 million minor league baseball park, $20 million for renovations at a zoo and a $1.5 million program to reduce prostitution.
Pretty typical government, eh? I suppose if you are going to dream, dream big! Of course these are just recommendations and I doubt many will see any of the funding that is asked for.
So what was on Thornton’s wish list? Click here to take a look. Although most are traditional, much needed infrastructure projects such as roads and water works, there are a few that I raise an eyebrow at on there and have a hard time seeing as having much to do with economic recovery.
